Neighborhood BOO!

Sometimes getting your neighborhood to really get into the Halloween spirit can really be challenging. But you could always get them to join you in a game of BOO!!!!! This is a very popular game in various areas of the country, but then other parts have not even heard of such a game.
You may be living a certain neighborhood, and you are thinking “ok, no one is going to participate in this round robin type game”. But you just might be surprised. There are times, especially during holidays, where people will get more involved in things than most other times of the year.
Here is how they game works. You will print up a couple poems and also the instructions on Halloween colored paper. Then fill two treat baskets or bowls with candy, stickers, themed pencils or anything fun and Halloween-related. Just make sure the basket or container is one you don’t want back.
You will then go and “BOO!” two of your neighbors. It’s a little bit like the old game of “ring and run.” Leave the items on their porch making sure you are anonymous. You will also leave the instructions and poem along with the goodies. Now, it’s your neighbor’s turn. It’s their turn to get in the spirit and BOO two more people. Once you have been BOO’d, make sure to post the BOO poem somewhere very visible near your front door so that you don’t get BOO’d twice.
Start the BOO game the first week or so of October. The earlier the BOO starts, the more people there are who can share in the fun and spirit of the holiday.
The kids or anyone can write their own BOO poem, but here are a couple BOO Poems you can use.
“Boo!
To our good friends on the street;
Our homes’ locations made us meet;
You now have been Boo’d, but who would we be?
We’ll never tell, it’s a secret, you see.
We placed these goodies for you and yours;
Then we ran fast, after knocking the door!
Happy Halloween!”
But if you are looking for a little longer version you could use this one:
“The air is cool, the season fall
Soon Halloween will come to all;
The neighbors are after things to do
In fact, a neighbor brought this to you;
“Boo” is a sign of friendship power
Just hang it up and watch it double by hour;
On your front door is where it works
It wards off solicitors and scary jerks;
The treat that came with friendly note
Are yours to keep; enjoy them both;
The power comes when friends like you
Copy this and make it two;
Then others here among our friends
Will give warm fuzzies that will not end;
We’ll all have smiles upon our face
No one will know who “boo’ed” whose place;
Just one short day to share your Boo
You must be quick so they don’t know who;
And don’t forget a nifty treat
Like something cute or something sweet;
Please join the fun, let’s really hear it
And spread some “Boos” and neighborhood spirit!
You also want to decorate your poem and make it look as cute as possible. Or see if you can find a adorable BOO graphic. Also make sure you include some instructions on the flier just in case some people don’t understand the poem. Attach all this to your goodie basket or bag. Then one late night or early morning deliver your BOO surprise on peoples porches.
What you are working toward is a neighborhood that has a “BOO” on every door Halloween night.
